About the Commander

Greetings!  My name is Daniel Sauerwein and I serve as the Commander of the Grand Forks Composite Squadron, holding the grade of Major in Civil Air Patrol.  I would like to invite you to come and check out our squadron and what Civil Air Patrol is all about.  You will find that our squadron is a diverse and talented group of people dedicated to serving their community, state, and nation.

I have been a member of Civil Air Patrol since September 2006 and have enjoyed my service thus far.  I assumed command in July 2012, having previously served the squadron as the Professional Development Officer.  I have worked extensively with the cadet program, serving as Deputy Commander for Cadets from December 2007 to January 2011.  I have participated in several missions during my time in CAP, earning the Disaster Relief Ribbon with clasp and "V" device, as well as the "Find" ribbon.

Outside of CAP, I am completing my Ph.D. in History at the University of North Dakota.  I am an avid Civil War reenactor, and also volunteer with the Sons of the American Legion.  I look forward to meeting you at a future squadron meeting and sharing with you the benefits of membership in CAP for yourself, or your children.
